Greetings LCM!
I am Pastor Bob Rasmus, assigned by Bishop Roth to be your interim pastor for the next several months. I am delighted to be a part of your ministry.
We’ve been neighbors for many years, as I served as the lead Pastor at St. Matthew in Urbana for over 19 years. I retired a little over a year ago and remained in Urbana with my wife, Ann, and my daughter, Sophie. Ann is Associate Director of the University YMCA and Sophie is the middle of a gap year, looking at starting college in the fall.
I am a graduate of the University of Minnesota and the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, where I met my wife. I served for three years as a Regular Army medic, and later as an Army Reserve Chaplain. Before attending seminary, I worked as a broadcast journalist in Iowa and on a congressional staff in Washington, D.C. My first call was in Orange, TX, a small town in Southeast Texas near the Gulf of Mexico. After five years there, I accepted the call at St. Matthew and stayed there until my retirement.
I’ve always been grateful for the mission and ministry of LCM. Many years ago, when I first took the St. Matthew call, we were looking around for models of mid-week, family ministry. You shared with us your experience with LOGOS, and we adopted a similar program that served the church for many years.
Most recently I surely saw some of you at our Hops and Hymns events, that have, unfortunately, been curtailed by this difficult pandemic. If we all mind our P’s an Q’s and follow the mitigation protocols, we can get back to such things sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, in whatever ways are available to us, let’s share together the grace and good news of Christ, as we always have.
I begin this ministry on February 1 and look forward to getting to know you and all the good people at the Lutheran Church of Mahomet.
Peace,
Pastor Bob Rasmus
