Candlewood Free Luncheon Program

Picture
LCM will participate in the Candlewood Free Luncheon Program again this summer.  Our week will be July 14—18 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.  We will meet to organize menus on Sunday, June 29 at the Fellowship Hall.  If you have any questions, please contact Amy McDonald at 217-586-3944.

Needed—Meal Assistance Coordinator

Picture
Our church family needs a caring volunteer to serve on the Congregational Life committee as meal assistance coordinator on an ongoing basis. In this role, you would field periodic member requests for meals, talk with families about their needs, set up the meal plan, and recruit additional members to prepare and deliver the meals. You would not have to cook and deliver the meals, just coordinate the effort. This is a very important care giving ministry for our congregation. This could be a great service opportunity for a home-bound member. If you are interested, please call Laura Bottorff at 217-778-7351 or Bill Moehring at 312-560-7044.

Ladies Night Out

Ladies Nite Out will be  at JT's in Mahomet at 6:00 on Monday,
June 30.

New Signs Posted

Picture
You have all probably seen by now a similar sign posted on all entry doors to our church and All God’s Children pre-school.  This has been done in accordance with the new Illinois Public Safety Code (430 ILCS 66/65, par. 2) which states: Prohibited areas for concealed carry – any building, real property, and parking area under the control of a pre-school or child care facility, including any room or portion of a building under the control of a pre-school or child care facility.  Since we have All God’s Children pre-school within our church building, we must comply with Illinois Law.  Therefore, even if you possess a valid Concealed Carry Illinois Permit, you may not enter our grounds or buildings with a firearm. Please note that law enforcement officials are exempt from this law and may carry their firearm within and on our property.  If you have any questions, please let me know.
Bill Taylor, Building & Grounds Chairperson.

YOUTH CHAIR PERSON WANTED

Picture
Are you looking for a rewarding volunteer position?  Do you enjoy spending time with youth and planning activities and special events for them?  Do you enjoy sharing God’s love and grace with young people?  If you said to yes to those questions, the position of Youth Chairperson might be just what you have been looking for!  Duties include planning programs and education for all youth, working with and supervising the LOGOS team, and working with the church council in this two-year position.  If you feel called to serve the youth of our congregation in this way, please contact President Bill Moehring  at billmoehring@yahoo.com or Secretary Sherri  Reifsteck  at mrsr1974@mchsi.com.

Do you think you have a green thumb?

Picture
Would you like to develop a green thumb? Boy do we have an opportunity for you. The LCM is looking for volunteers to help with the planting, pruning, weeding and general upkeep of our Church grounds. This is an opportunity to provide a valuable service to our congregation as well as achieving personal satisfaction that everyone will be able to benefit from the fruits of your labor. If interested, please contact Laura Bottorff by email at gardendog@mchsi.com or phone 778.7351.

LCM Virtual Quad Board Available!

Picture

A new feature has been added to the LCM Website called "LCM Virtual Quad Board". http://lcofm.org/lcm-virtual-quad-board.html
This is a place for all committees/groups discussion boards related to a specific topic in real time. You would use this discussion board similar to anything you would want to put on the existing "physical" Quad Board in the Narthex. Each LCM Committee has a discussion board where anyone can post comments/discussion. To view the comments on a board, click on the title of the board. If you have something you want to post to one of the existing boards, simply click on the Add Comment" under the existing board. Other boards/categories can be created upon request via the "Request a Discussion Board" link in the right column. The LCM Virtual Quad Board is also compatible with RSS readers for your Smartphone or tablet such that you can get real-time posts sent directly to your device. For more information, contact Larry Gibson via email at lpgibson.gcs@gmail.com

Assistance Needed:

Picture
The Nuesmeyers need meals twice a week for the immediate future while Dennis is recovering from surgery. If you would like to bring a meal, please contact Brenda Lindsey htslindsey@mchsi.com .

Crisis Nursery Volunteers Needed

Picture
Volunteers are needed for the Crisis Nursery Ministry Team. Our team covers volunteer shifts at Crisis Nursery every Saturday from 4-8 pm. We have had difficulty covering all our shifts and a few more volunteers would give us flexibility to respond to the needs each week. Volunteering at the Nursery is fun and rewarding. Please consider serving God in this way. For more information, contact Brenda Lindsey at htslindsey@mchsi.com.

Care Notes

Picture
The Care Notes on the display rack have been changed. They are currently located on a table right outside the entry doors to the sanctuary, to the left as you enter. Please take any you are interested in.  Other Care Notes are also displayed on the bulletin board near the main office, to the right of the church mailboxes. If you see one that interests you that is not in the display case, please take it from the bulletin board and write the number of the Care Note (which is on the bottom of the Care Note) on the pink pad in the parish nurse mailbox. A parish nurse will replace what has been taken from the bulletin board. It is not necessary to return any Care Notes—they are yours!

SYNOD and ELCA News and Events

SYNOD ASSEMBLY COMING UP IN JUNE!

Picture
The 27th Annual Central/Southern Illinois Synod Assembly is scheduled for June 5-7 in Springfield. Our theme this year is: “Promise, Prayer, and Pentecost!” The Assembly allows us to take time from our busy lives to assess how our faith fills our days and gives guidance and meaning to our actions. It is a time for reflection, for discussion, for learning---a mix of learning and living. Additional information has been posted on our quad-board.
As in the past, LCM will send delegates to the Assembly. We are entitled to send three lay voting members; two adults (one male and one female) and one youth or young adult (age 21 or below). LCM pays your expenses while at the Assembly. If you are interested in attending the Assembly as an LCM delegate, please contact Bill Moehring at 586-7036 or by email at: billmoehring@yahoo.com. Please let Bill know by April 30 if you are interested in serving as a delegate. If more than the allowed number of delegates wish to attend, we will pull names from a hat. Bill Moehring (312) 560-7044

Tornado Relief Update from Bishop Roth

Picture
I have been keeping in touch with our pastors in areas directly affected by the tornadoes where we have churches: Pastor Stephen Barnes (Our Savior, Pekin), Pastor John Bates (St. Mark, Washington), Pastor David Deem (Lutheran Church of the Cross, Metropolis), and Pastor John Rothfusz (Faith, Washington). Let me comment on each of those situations. But first let me explain Lutheran Disaster Response's role in such events...Read More
