I have been asked by the Church Council to share something about myself with you.  So that you might know me better as I serve among you as one of your Interim Pastors.  So here goes.

I was born in Waverly, Iowa, and am the youngest of three children with two older sisters.  I lived in the small town of New Hartford, Iowa, where my parents owned and operated a General Grocery Store.  At the age of eight years we moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa, where my father was in the life insurance business.

I graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1955 and continued my education at Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, graduating with a BA Degree in 1959.  For a number of years I had planned to enter the Parish Ministry so I enrolled at Wartburg Theological Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa, for my theological training.  I graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree in 1963.  Having completed my eight years of higher education, I was looking forward to getting out and serving the Lord in a congregation.

I served as Pastor in a two-point parish at Union State Line Lutheran Church, Petersburg, Minnesota, and Palestine Lutheran Church, Dolliver, Iowa, from 1963 – 1966;  Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Iowa, from 1966 – 1978, Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, Iowa, from 1978 – 1990, as Senior Pastor; The Lutheran Church of Mahomet,  Mahomet, Illinois, 1990 – 2002, as Senior Pastor.  I retired from full time Parish Ministry in October of 2002.  Since that time I have served in our Central Southern Illinois Synod in five Interim Pastorates at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, St.  Joseph, Illinois;  Grace Lutheran Church, Champaign, Illinois; St. Peter Lutheran Church, Dwight, Illinois; St. John Lutheran Church, Danforth, Illinois; and now at the Lutheran Church of Mahomet, Mahomet, Illinois.  I have also done pulpit supply for many congregations in our synod and have led Celebration Sunday Stewardship programs in a number of congregations in our synod.

I am blessed with a wonderful wife, Marian, with whom I was joined in marriage on September 3, 1961.  We were blessed with two children:  a son Paul, who we lost in death on February 4, 2012; and a daughter, Vicki Comnick, who lives in Novato, California.  We are blessed with three grand children ranging in age from 13 to 21.

I live in Mahomet, Illinois, and enjoy living close to the University of Illinois and the Champaign area.  I have many interests which include reading, following sports like baseball, basketball, football, etc. and traveling.  I enjoy fishing, golfing, ping-pong, walking – hiking, yard work and gardening.  I like the challenges of doing hands on things such as home repairs, home improvements and auto mechanics.

During the time that God gives us together I look forward to getting to know you better and to share with you the wonderful hope that is ours in our Lord Jesus Christ.
